Promoting Creativity and Community through Leisure and Recreation
"It's never too late to fall in love with life. Or to rekindle the old flame. Since 1935, Northland Recreational Laboratory has been a place to do just that. Founded as an outlet for lifelong learning, leadership, and just plain fun, it fulfills that role to this day. While kid's camps are great -- and we love the experiences they provide -- Northland is an immersive experience for adults. We have participants who have been coming to camp for 60+ years, and others who joined us for the first time this year!
Want to make some new best friends? Northland is definitely the place. Try creative arts and crafts? From bird houses to nature jewelry, wire sculpture to watercolor, Ukrainian eggs to leather tooling to abalone inlay art to rock mandalas, discover it at Northland. How about yoga and Tai Chi, storytelling and creative writing, nature walks and birding, folk dancing and especially singing -- Oh, the singing -- along with impromptu evening jams with fiddles, guitars, and Celtic harps? Check. Check. Check. And you might be able to squeeze in a few take-no-prisoner games of Hot Dice or Chinese Checkers in the evening as well.
Incredibly, all this and more can be experience at Northland, thanks to an 87-year tradition of honoring play. The joy of learning. And a pure, undying enthusiasm for life. Mostly, Northland is about making connections-- between people, between ages, between far-flung interests and hobbies, between human beings and the wonderful natural world. And especially between that sometimes too-busy, too-distracted, too-over-burdened person - you - and that wonderful thing called life.
