2026 Northland Rec Lab
Exploring, Expanding our Lives
DISCUSSION -- "Playing Dress Up: The Stories and Clothes of our Lives"
Mary Schmidt is a Professional Storyteller, professor of Communications, Historian, Interpreter, marathon-runner and so much more! For over 20 years, Mary has done extensive historical research on textiles and clothing - the garments that hang in our own closets, and those that define an era and a culture. We're excited that Mary will lead our discussions in 2026, and will invite workshop participants to examine the fabric of our own lives within the context of our apparel. We will be considering the decades of our lives and gain insights into each. Are you intrigued? Mary is inviting all Rec Lab attendees to bring a favorite garment, family photo, or accessory that speaks to them.
SINGING and MUSIC
Morning singing is near and dear to the hearts of Rec Labbers. We come together each day after breakfast to raise our voices in unison and harmony, exploring a variety of tunes, from folk songs to old favorites. We are pleased that Marissa Dodge will be back this year as our choral leader. Join us!
DANCING
Dave Leussler has led Folk Dancing at Northland for the past couple of years. Dave has been dancing most of his life (his father, Donn, led folk dancing at Northland for many years!). Dave has taught dance at Tapestry Folk Dance Center in Minneapolis, at social events at his church, and at the Danebod Folk School Family camp in Minneapolis. All this experience means Dave is perfectly poised to teach rec labbers to folk dance! Long-time Northland attendees and dance aficionados will assist Dave in sharing some of the old favorites.
ARTS, CRAFTS, RESOURCES
It's always exciting to see the variety of artistic endeavors we can pursue at lab. 2025 was no exception; Below are the classes available at our 2025 lab. We look forward to updating this later this year, and sharing those that will be available in 2026!
